Every once in a while I feel the urge to get back to the source of all my wild art, tech, and lighting things by busting out the paintbrush and canvas.
In this case I have had this fiery fade of a backdrop on wood and all throughout my van life travels last year I thought it would be so cool to create some sort of abstract "dot" formation involving "David" by Michelangelo.
Fast forward to here in the studio and I came up with some Processing code to turn a gray scale image of the sculpture into a diamond grid of cylinders where the height and diameter represented the brightness of the underlying pixel.
I then 3D printed these out and used "The Sandbox of Life" to map and then glue all 1200+ of them on there!
A touch of spray paint, some planetary rings, and a nice back helped it all come together.
With that I am beyond stoked to share the finished product. I hope this inspires you to finish that project you have been putting off or to start a new one! There are literally so many possibilities at our finger tips now!
